What Is SIE4?
SIE (Standard Import Export) is a file format developed by SIE-gruppen in Sweden. It has been the industry standard for decades and is supported by virtually every Swedish accounting application, including Fortnox, Visma, Bokio, and many others. A SIE4 file contains:- Company information — organisation number, company name, financial year dates.
- Chart of accounts — all account numbers and names.
- Opening balances — account balances at the start of the financial year.
- Vouchers — all accounting transactions with their debit and credit entries.
- Closing balances — account balances at the end of the financial year.
Importing SIE4 Files
When to Import
Import a SIE4 file when:- Migrating from another system — you are switching from Fortnox, Visma, or another tool to Aourly’s built-in bookkeeping and want to bring your historical data.
- Starting a new financial year with opening balances — your accountant provides a SIE4 file with closing balances from the previous year.
- Restoring data — you need to restore previously exported accounting records.
How to Import
- Navigate to Bookkeeping and click the Imports tab.
- Click Import SIE4.
- Select the SIE4 file from your computer (typically a
.seor.sifile). - Aourly parses the file and imports the data.
Reviewing the Import
After importing, Aourly shows a summary:- Number of accounts imported or updated.
- Number of vouchers imported.
- Number of transactions processed.
- Any warnings (e.g., accounts that do not match the BAS standard).
- Any errors (e.g., malformed data in the file).
Import Tips
- Check the financial year — make sure the SIE4 file covers the correct period before importing.
- Avoid duplicates — if you import the same file twice, you may get duplicate vouchers. Only import a file once per financial year.
- Verify after import — check the Accounts and Vouchers tabs to confirm the data looks correct.
Exporting SIE4 Files
When to Export
Export a SIE4 file when:- Sharing with your accountant — your accountant can import the file into their system for year-end closing, tax filing, or review.
- Migrating to another system — if you move away from Aourly, export your data to bring it with you.
- Annual reporting — some annual report preparation tools accept SIE4 files.
- Backup — export at the end of each financial year as a permanent record of your accounting data.
How to Export
- Navigate to Bookkeeping.
- Use the Export SIE4 action.
- Select the financial year you want to export.
- Aourly generates the SIE4 file.
- Download the file to your computer.
Export Tips
- Export regularly — a good practice is to export at the end of each month or quarter as a running backup.
- Label your files — rename the downloaded file with the company name and period (e.g.,
MinFirma_2025.se) for easy identification. - Share securely — SIE4 files contain sensitive financial data. Use secure methods (encrypted email, shared drives with access control) when sending to your accountant.
